Mutual funds
What is a mutual fund?
A mutual fund is an investment vehicle made up of a large portfolio of stocks, bonds, or other securities (often more than 100). Funds can either be managed with a professional fund manager (at a higher expense) or indexed – that is, constructed to mirror the ups and downs of an index, like the S&P 500 or the U.S. bond market – generally with lower fees.
Who are mutual funds for?
Mutual funds can be a good, cost-effective way for many people to invest. Mutual funds commonly require low minimum investments, often between $1,000–$3,000.
